In response to our last question, What part of your job is most time consuming? our results were as follows:

 

 

Supervisors answered:

  • 27% of responses cited personnel problems or employee issues


"Dealing with the employee issues: evaluations, staffing, training, etc."

"Actions for problem personnel."

"Following up with staff on concerns.... scheduling, time off, rumors, discipline..."

  • 20% cited maintaining inventory and/or instrument losses:


"Hands on inventory control."

"Constantly looking for missing instruments and trays that have been incorrectly labeled or stored."

  • 13% said training:


"Education training of new staff due to high rate of turnover and the lack of trained technicians in the job market...."

"Training staff members outside the Sterile Processing area...."

  • Some other comments included the following statements:

"Continuous Quality Improvement"

"Attending meetings..."

"Reading e-mails..."

Technicians answered:

  • 33% of Techs said storeroom and/or inventory


"Taking inventory of the med/surg floor carts"

"storeroom, just trying to learn the set-up and the inventory for getting the supplies to the floor..."

  • Another 33% of Techs said paperwork


"teaching and paperwork take up most of my time..."

"most time consuming is the paperwork in this position (team leader)..."

  • Some other comments included the following statements:


"Cleaning difficult instruments"

"Everything!"
