| some requirments and a designated trainer for all new Employees I did factory work and we were osi 9000 certified (STANDARDIZATION) ( it made sure that each person coming into a business got the same exact training right up to now it has been a mish mosh ( I myself was not trained properly and practiced improper procedures and practaces )and as the dept has changed with a new supervisor student trainig I feel after 7 years I am finally getting it right. It would be nice to have some educational videos or on line classes it is difficult to get the time for extra education in a very hectic world |
| I think the cs staff need to spend some time in the OR roonms to see how important it is to have all sets sterilized and complete with chemical indicators,no holes in wrappers etc,etc. Also to have infection controll staff educate the patients on how unsafe it is to request implantable hardware after surgery. |

| I have a great deal of internal support. Our education program for CS is outstanding. We have a Scope of Excellence program where each technician is an expert is a specific CS field such as Safety, IC, Sterility Assurance, Instruments, Implants, etc. Each is required to present or facilitate two inservices pertaining to their scope each year. My senior leadership is extremely supportive. |

An infection control educator who actually comes out of her office more than once a year to teach staff about all the Super Bugs , viruses, diseases, isolations, PPE, etc... and do so on a regular basis so that it's not heard at a seminar once a year and forgotten. Training on all equipment , how to trouble shoot problems not just clean. Training on how,when,& why for all BI's,CI's,PCD'S,Leak Testing, etc... Training on all mechanical equipment, Washer Decontaminators, All Sterlizers, HLD, ETC...because to many people get thrown into the job and have no idea what their doing or why! Policy and Procedure Manuals that are kept up to date! |

We use sales reps, OR team leaders, professional journals, etc to enhance the educational opportunities. Plus we send staff to professional conferences when we can. We've also implemented this year certification pay to encourage SPD team members to become certified. They can earn $1000 - 1500 more per year if certified. |
