The Maryland Chapter held its Fall Seminar& Vendor Fair October 15, 2011, at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. Guest speakers included Sandy Albright from SRI Surgical and Ray Taurasi from Healthmark Industries. A total of 87 CSSD professionals and vendors attended this event and the vendor fair had 23 different vendor display tables. We are in planning stages for our Spring 2012 Educational Seminar, and we look forward to another great event and turnout. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event successful.

The Maryland Chapter continues its involvement in the grassroots stages regarding State Certification of CSSD professionals. With the help of Jo Colacci from National IAHCSMM, we have implemented some basic strategies so we can begin our campaign for state legislation. We have contacted one of our state legislators, an ER physician, who provided the name of the delegate who would most likely support our legislation. We did receive a Proclamation from our Governor, Martin O’Malley, for National CS Week. This was a terrific first step in having our profession recognized at this level. Steve Adams, Greater Baltimore Medical Center, and Bill Milliken, Upper Chesapeake Health, are taking the lead on this project. We will be in need of additional member support very soon.

Our Maryland Chapter continues to network with CSSD managers across the state. Our next meeting is scheduled for early January. This has served as a vehicle to improve communication and support for one another.

If there are CSSD managers/directors not currently attending these meetings, we ask that you please get involved so your department's staff can be well informed of what is happening with our profession in the State of Maryland. Ask your manager/ director to contact Steve Adams at sjadams@gbmc.org.

Lastly, our chapter has also begun the development of a website. The website is under construction and we hope to have it launched by early 2012. The domain name for this site is www.maspp.net.
